Austrian pioneer Sabine Singer inspires with lecture on value-based AI

On 12 December 2024, our law firm had the pleasure of inviting Sabine Singer, founder and CEO of Sophisticated Simplicity GmbH, to give a lecture.

The Austrian pioneer in AI ethics captivated around 250 guests in the ballroom of the Wirtschaftskammer Tirol (Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce) with her talk on “AI Ethics by Design – From Digital Humanism to Value-Based AI Strategy.”

Following the cancellation of our previously announced speaker, Tobias Haar, General Counsel at the German AI developer Aleph Alpha, due to illness, Sabine Singer stepped in at short notice – and wowed the audience. With her expertise and passion, she explained how ethical values can be systematically integrated into AI development, including through the concept of “value-based engineering” in line with ISO/IEC/IEEE 24748:7000, a strategic methodology for successful data and AI projects. Singer emphasized the importance of data quality and ethical responsibility in a technologically driven future.

Using numerous examples, the visionary entrepreneur made it clear that AI is not a distant decision but an immediate reality, and that the challenges it brings must be met. Sabine Singer presented practical approaches for how companies can ensure ethical standards while simultaneously unlocking innovation potential:

“A value-based AI strategy requires the courage to combine technology with the wisdom of the heart,” said Sabine Singer.

Sybille Regensberger, head of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, delivered the welcoming address. Georg Huber and Fabian Bösch, legal experts in data, digital & tech, represented our law firm as hosts on stage. A lively discussion, with numerous questions and comments from the audience, rounded off the program.

Sophisticated Simplicity is Austria’s first business agency for AI ethics and value-based business model development. Sabine Singer, MBA, is an ambassador for digital humanism and brings over 25 years of experience in translating complex technologies into tangible human value. Together with Austrian Standards, she has also developed value-based engineering into an internationally recognized methodology.

Many thanks to Sabine Singer for her willingness to step in at short notice for the suddenly ill Tobias Haar, as well as for her “eye-opening” words. We also extend our gratitude to the Wirtschaftskammer Tirol (Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce) for providing the perfect setting, to Sybille Regensberger for her warm welcome remarks, and to all those involved, as well as the entire law firm team. Above all, we thank all the participants for their great interest!

Events like this embody our commitment to combining legal expertise with inspiring ideas and fostering personal exchange. The evening was not only marked by in-depth content but also by enriching encounters over finger food and a glass of wine in a relaxed atmosphere.

We are already looking forward to the next opportunity to continue the dialogue!
