Bonus or Prison Bars? – Managers’ Decisions under the scrutiny of the Public Prosecutor

On May 13th, 2015, in Innsbruck’s Grand Hotel Europa, Greiter Pegger Kofler & Partners are hosting a presentation by Mag. Walter Geyer, former Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption Crimes in Vienna, titled “Bonus or Prison Bars? – Managers’ Decisions under the scrutiny of the Public Prosecutor”.

The danger for managers to land in the middle of criminal investigations has increased in recent years. There are more and more headlines about court proceedings where executives are in the dock. Based on his many years of experience and using individual case examples, the speaker will illustrate how quickly the limit as to what is allowed in business dealings can be reached and when that borderline is crossed. The presentation will address the following topics:

  • What can be done to avoid any risk of criminal prosecution?
  • Which activities or conduct in the business world are risky from a criminal law point of view?
  • Where is the line between acting to the benefit of a business and fraud?
  • What is the criminal liability of a company and how can it be avoided?

The speaker, Mag. Walter Geyer, was the first Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption Crimes in Vienna from 2009 to 2012. Beforehand he had been the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Korneuburg, the Director of the Division Against Organised Crime of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vienna, a judge for criminal and civil proceedings as well as a member of the Austrian parliament. Furthermore he is a speaker and the author of a large number of professional publications, in particular in the field of corporate criminal law.
