{"id":8582,"date":"2019-11-19T10:36:27","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T09:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lawfirm.at\/?post_type=news&#038;p=8121"},"modified":"2020-08-05T13:35:51","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T12:35:51","slug":"class-actions-for-the-procedural-handling-of-mass-damage-claims","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.lawfirm.at\/en\/news\/class-actions-for-the-procedural-handling-of-mass-damage-claims","title":{"rendered":"Class Actions for the Procedural Handling of Mass Damage Claims?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 8.11.2019, attorney <em>Georg Huber<\/em> spoke at the invitation of university professor Dr. Waldemar Hummer at the follow-up event for European law in Schloss Hofen on the topic &#8220;Diesel scandal, data protection and cartels: class actions for the procedural handling of mass damage claims?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The event entitled &#8220;EU AKTUELL &#8211; Developments over the last 12 months&#8221; was held in cooperation with the Centre for European Law of the University of Passau.<\/p>\n<p><em>Georg Huber<\/em> first explained the various forms of class action lawsuits, such as group lawsuits and model lawsuits, and then informed the listeners &#8211; all former graduates of the course in European law &#8211; about the meaning and purpose of class actions.<\/p>\n<p>The legal situations in Germany, the USA and Austria were explained as examples.<\/p>\n<p>Since there are major differences in the individual member states of the EU with regard to class actions, the Commission submitted a proposal for a Directive in this area in 2018.
